RUNAWAY WITH THE CIRCUS
Inspired by the old-fashioned travelling circus, Runaway with the Circus features sumptuous illustrations which perfectly capture the elegance and character of the 1930’s..
It’s 1930’s France and a beautiful young girl needs to escape. Her family have been struck down with Scarlet Fever, bundled away in the ‘fever cart’ and forced into quarantine. Terrified she’ll be taken too and with no means to support herself, she’s forced to go on the run, stealing scraps of food from kitchen back entrances and sleeping rough.
One morning she wakes beside the train tracks and discovers the travelling circus has come to town. Here begins her incredible journey when she runs away with the circus…
Join her as she fights with determination and spirit to work her way up the circus ranks. From the bottom of the heap mucking out the animal carriages and sleeping with the animals, to being surrounded with shimmering fabrics as she mends the costumes, to joining the clown act, training the lions and swinging high above the circus tent in the death-defying trapeze act. But her dream is to ride bareback the beautiful white horses, the darlings of the circus, in the final act of the show.
Will she achieve her dream?
Meet the outrageous circus characters who become her friends and the gorgeous animal trainer who steals her heart.
